Planning Approval – Malvern Hills
Malvern Hills District Council has granted planning permission for The Chapel conversion (reference 20/00190/FUL), approved 23 September 2020.
The approval includes nine conditions addressing highway safety, heritage details, and construction methodology. Notably, Condition 4 requires submission of a construction method statement showing how the new ceiling will be attached to the existing structure—demonstrating the Council’s commitment to protecting the building’s historic fabric.
The decision validates our conservation-led approach. By introducing a suspended ceiling rather than insulating between existing roof timbers, we avoid the risk of cold-bridging and interstitial condensation that could accelerate timber decay. This strategy preserves the historic roof structure in situ for future generations whilst enabling compliance with Part L Building Regulations.
The approval represents a careful balance between heritage preservation and the Council’s ‘Destination Zero’ carbon reduction targets adopted in July 2019.
